This month's Black Girl Magic Box came with a December newsletter focused on self-care and restoration, and a Magical Affirmation card.

Black & White Floral Headwrap – Retail Value $20.00

Our first item in our restoration focused box is a headwrap by the company Harriets by Hekima and is so pretty! The material feels like cotton and I love the colorful floral pattern over the black & white print.

      • 1 of 3

You don't need to be a wrap expert to use this cute headband! The material is already cut and folded in a way that you just need to put on and tie. I wore this to the grocery store the other day, and it's so light I forgot it was still on my head by the time I was preparing for bed. It stayed on for a good 8 hours! I'd love to purchase different patterns.

Versed Planning Get It Done 2021 Planner – Retail Value $25.00

Listen. If you know me, you will know I LOVE a good planner! Yes, I am a millennial. Yes, I still use my phone calendar. But there is something so comforting in knowing you won't miss an appointment when you write it down. I get a new planner every year. I know a good planner, and this Get It Done one, is good! I really enjoy the inspirational quotes and themed questions each week.

          • 1 of 3

Also, who doesn't love stickers to add some art and fun as you plan?! This planner comes with a bunch! The only thing I would love to change is the space for writing out appointments. I write pretty big, so need a little more room than average.

Avalah Sugar Body Scrub (Classic), 8 fl oz – Estimated Value $10.00 (buy a different variety of this scrub here for $20)

I was unable to find this exact scrub on Avalah's website, but I linked to a different variety they do offer.

Mmm mmm mmm! This classic sugar body scrub by Avalah smells like a dessert! Notes of brown sugar, vanilla, nutmeg, and shea butter hit my nose upon opening. I cannot get over this smell! I seriously was tempted to eat it. Especially since the consistency of this item looks like brown sugar. Not only does this scrub smell good, it feels good! I used it in the shower and my body felt so soft after. The smell stayed with me all day and my husband couldn't get enough of stealing little whiffs of me haha!

The Best Kind Body Butter, 3.7 oz. – Estimated Value $29.60 (Buy a 1 oz. version here for $8.00)

Another delicious smelling product in this month's subscription box! This body butter is infused with rosemary and basil and smells divine. I love rosemary and basil in my food but was unsure how I might like the smell of basil on my body. I loved it! The basil was light enough that I didn't smell like a pasta dish. It provided a nice oomph to the lavender scent the rosemary provided. It felt just like butter when applied! Silky and moisturizing. I did cut the butter with lotion just so it wasn't heavy on my skin. With all-natural ingredients, this butter is good for clarifying, moisturizing, nourishing, and toning skin. I received this butter in 3.7 oz.

Lucky Thirteen Candle Co. Massage Candle, 2 oz.– Estimated Value $12.50 (Buy a 4 oz. version here for $25.00)

This tranquility candle is in the scent of lavender and peppermint and is designed to relieve mental fatigue and reduce anxiety. I love candles. And while I don't love the smell of peppermint, I was intrigued. Upon opening the jar, the peppermint was in full effect. It was a little overbearing for me. Probably more so because I'm just not a fan of the smell. When lit, the smell was the same. More peppermint dominant with a hint of lavender. I received this candle in 2 0z.

                    Verdict:

This month's box was all about restoration and starting 2021 off optimistically! With the 2020 we had, I think we all could use some restoration mentally, spiritually, and physically. I appreciated this box's hopeful message! I can't wait to wear the headwrap out and about socializing when this pandemic is under control (or maybe on a zoom call for the time being). The body scrub has been a huge hit in my household! Both my husband and I love the way our skin is silky smooth after showers. And again…that SCRUMPTIOUS smell!

                    To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Sadly, no. HOWEVER, if you have a favorite item, you may be able to find that item on its specific brand page. From Black Girl Magic Box:

Boxes ship bi-monthly on the 25th. Please order by the 15th of that month to receive the current shipment.

                    Value Breakdown: This bi-monthly box costs $63.94 ($54.95 + $8.99 shipping). I estimate that I received $97.10 in items.
